I have been having some problems with my 06 LR3 the check engine light still comes on even after I took it to livermore land rover several months ago. also and this is what really bugs me, my roof leaks!! and I don't think it has to do with the sun roof or the glass in the back. it appears to be on the molding over the front passenger. does anyone have a obd 2 computer to help me with the engine light and all the faults that i have been getting (mostly when i'm in the snow) or know where i could buy a good one? And does anybody know how i could fix my roof or could help me with it? ill bring the beer of choice. I cant afford to take it to the shop to have them fix it, unless what they repaired is faulty. thank you!!

I could be wrong but, I don't believe a typical OBDII scanner will work on the LR3. CAN BUS style may??? As far as the leak goes, is this not a warranty issue?

Sas is right, you will need a scan tool that's CAN (Controller Area Network) ready. Your 2006 LR3 is CAN - equipped.

Troubleshooting CAN car is no different than troubleshooting any OBD II vehicles. You need a scan tool (uses the same DLC or Data Link Connector interface under the steering column) to read out fault codes and other sensor data. Th key is "a scan tool that is CAN compliant". That means it has the proper software and hardware to communicate with the vehicle at higher speeds.

Older scan tools (namely, most of those made before about 2006) lack the circuitry to talk to a CAN system. Some older scan tools have the right hardware, and can be upgraded with new software. But in most cases you will need a newer scan tool that is CAN-compliant to do onboard diagnostics.

The scanner I have is the CAN-ready.

Bear, if Colin can help you, that's great. If not, let me know and when Sas is finished using my scanner, you can borrow it.

Bit of history (feel like being a professor today - lol): the orginal OBD (On Board Diagnostics) 1 applies to 1995 and older vehicles. Beginning 1996, most new vehicles were OBD II. CAN started to appear in new vehicles in 2003, and starting in 2008- all vehicles sold are CAN-equipped.

Also in OBD II, car makers used a variaty of DLC (Data link Connector) type and located. Beginning 1996, cars sold in the US use the J1962 (OBD II) DLC making the plug and location of the plug consistent located under the dashboard driver's side.

Here's a list of vehicles from 2003 to 2007 that are CAN-equipped (2008+ are req to be CAN-equipped):

2003 Ford Excursion, 2003 Ford F-250 & F-350, 2003 Ford Focus & Thunderbird, 2003 General Motors Saturn ION, 2003 Lincoln LS, 2003 Mazda 6, and 2003 SAAB 9-3

2004 Buick Rendezvous, 2004 Cadillac CTS, XLR & SRX, 2004 Dodge Durango, 2004 Ford Explorer, 2004 Ford F-150, E-250 & E-350, 2004 Ford Taurus, 2004 Lexus LS430, 2004 Mercury Mountaineer, 2004 Mercury Sable, 2004 Mazda 3 & RX-8, 2004 Toyota Prius, and 2004 Volvo S40

2005 Audi A4 & A6, 2005 Buick LaCrosse, Rendevous & Ranier, 2005 Cadillac STS, 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt, Corvette & Malibu, 2005 Chevrolet Equinox, 2005 Chevrolet SSR, 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT, 2005 Chrysler 300C, 2005 Dodge Dakota & Magnum, 2005 Ford Crown Victoria, Five Hundred, Focus & Mustang, 2005 Ford E-150, 2005 Ford Escape & Expedition, 2005 Ford Freestyle, 2005 GMC Envoy ESV & XL, 2005 Isuzu Ascender, 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 2005 Lexus LS400 & GX470, 2005 Lincoln Town Car, 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis, Montigo & Sable, 2005 Mercury Mariner, 2005 Pontiac G6, Grand Prix & GTO, 2005 Land Rover LR3, 2005 Mazda MPV & Tribute, 2005 Mercedes SLK350, 2005 SAAB 9-7X, 2005 Toyota Avalon, 2005 Toyota 4Runner, Sequoia, Tacoma & Tundra, and 2005 Volvo S60, S80, V50, V70, XC90

Interestingly enough, I tried your scanner on my '06 LR3 and all that happened was a communication error statement. I used the Generic OBDII mode as Land Rover was not an option in the Config Menu. No worries Ron. I'll call you this week for the hand-off and some San Miguel! Thanks.

Good to know Dave on your test. No rush on getting the scanner back.

I will have to check if (Autoxray EZ-Scan 5000) has the latest update. Before I bought it, I was told it's CAN ready; here's where I purchased it: http://www.levineaut...ez50obdii.html; I will just follow-up when I get it back and may need to download the latest software. C yah!

my roof leaks!!

Mine has been great so far. Wish I could say the same about my wife's Disco which still leaks after many attempts by several people to solve it. However, I heard at the dealer that the LR3s have started coming in for leaking roofs more frequently now and the culprit seems to be more times than not that the drain tubes from the sun roof get twisted up and colapsed thus unable to do their job properly. No clue as to how they fix that though.
