We decided to do our first NCLR Baja Trip in 2011

Sea of Cortez is just too inviting; will be an epic trip for sure!

Bring your Kayak (optional), ham radio a plus, leave the guns behind (lol), and bring plenty of sunscreen for sure!

Back to back wknd, and 5 days (Mon-Fri) will be the lenght of the trip/time off needed from work.

October time frame

From the Bay Area, to the border, to San Felipe, Puertecitos, Gonza Gay and perhaps beyond...

Here we come!

No man (or woman) left behind is out motto, and enjoy life to the fullless is the other!

Keep an eye on the official trip thread soon.

Ok, lots of planning to do, but making progress.

We are looking for trip sponsors to get discounts on items/products for our Baja Adventure: such as racks (BajaRack stepped in), camping equip or portable freezer (American RV Company wants to help), and sponsorship dollars for celebration lunch/dinner baja style... More on this later.

Speaking of planning: tourist card will be needed, along with vehicle insurance, and more details coming including routes, timeline, food, traveling in caravans for safety, drinking water, fuel @ Pemex stations, pesos/carrying cash/travelers checks, law of the land e.g. no guns, drugs.... More on this later also.

While Carlos and I create the draft trip sheet with all the details to help us make this a fun, safe and succesfully trip, we wanted to know who would be interested in going; we know Antonio, Nigel and a few others are.

Let's firm it up again here.

Time frame will be a back to back wknd in Oct = Fri/Sat/Sun/Mon/Tue/Wed/Thur/Fri/Sat/Sun. 10 days total. Exact date to be determined based on which date yield best for the group.

Just to give you an idea. Will leave the Bay Area on Fri, spend the 1st night near the border US side, and fresh start driving thru Mexicali early Saturday morning... and rest let the adventure being Saturday to Saturday. And then back in the Bay Area Sunday.

Pls post if interested and answer the following basic Qs for now.

Name and how many family members/members who will be traveling with you?

Do you speak Spanish (not req but good to know who speaks and doesn't)?

Bringing pets?

Which Land Rover truck are you taking (will help with the spare parts to carry planning)?

What back to back wknd, and wknd days are you avail?

How many traveling in your family/group?

Do you have any medical condition(s) e.g. diabetic that we should be aware (PM me if preferred to chat privately)?

Do you have ham/CB radio (one of these or both will be required for the trip)?

Do you have a Satelite phone (not req) - just want to know and does it have coverage in Mexico?

Hi there,

I just bought a RTT for my RRC as I am getting ready for this trip. I found a local company that sales RTT at a very good price. The quality looks good and I think it will withstand some abuse. They are locate in Santa Cruz and this is their website TEPUITENTS.COM. Check them out

Ron, you should also reach out to them and see if they want to sponsor this trip. He told me that he just sponsored a group who is traveling down to Central America.

Which Land Rover truck are you taking (will help with the spare parts to carry planning)?
I am planning to take my 1992 Range Rover

What back to back wknd, and wknd days are you avail?
The 14th thru the 23rd works for me.

How many traveling in your family/group?
So far is just me but I may be bring a friend.

Do you have any medical condition(s) e.g. diabetic that we should be aware (PM me if preferred to chat privately)?
I am wealthy like an OX. :-)

Do you have ham/CB radio (one of these or both will be required for the trip)?
I have a CB ready.

Do you have a Satelite phone (not req) - just want to know and does it have coverage in Mexico?
No Satellite phone. You may be able to use your cell phone over there but may need to pay international rates. I have use mine from Central Mexico just fine.

Also, no visitor visa is require if you have a US passport.

Thanks for the post AA and Rupert. Anyone else?

AA, I reached out to Tepui; look forward to hearing from them. I read positive reviews on their tent on Expedition Portal and another site. Also looks like the owners are getting ready for their trip to Pantagonia.

Which model did you get? If you can share your exp similar to this, look forward to checking out your new RRT: http://forum.ih8mud....ent-review.html

I also reached out to Camping Lab. I read good reviews about Camping Lab similar to the review above, and the owner Fernando I hear has excelent customer service and backs his products up. Waiting to hear back.

Ok, not to scare anyone away from this trip, but I really need to emphasize the safety aspect going down south. My other brother-in-law who is a high level law enforcement/safety officer cannot stress enough the dangers that are ever increasing. These dangers are well documented and publicized on our State Department's website. Traveling in numbers and only during daylight hours when in remote locations is the only preferred deterrent other than armed escort.

I have a friend who is a Mexican National. I will call him and see if he is interested in joining up with us and acting as a local guide/fixer for the trip.
