In the event we stay in Ridgecrest on Friday night, I just did some checking on hotel's in the area and asked about group rates.

Best Western $71.99 (down from $89) - heated pool & Spa, continental breakfast
Comfort Inn $76.46 (down from $84) - non-heated pool, spa, continental breakfast
Spring Hill Suites $89 (down from $109) - suites, heated pool, spa, continental breakfast

All had wifi or wired internet and microwaves in rooms. All three said they could currently accommodate a group our size on 4/6.

The pool could make for some fun for kids that have been locked in cars all day.

Ridgecrest is 26 miles from Trona via hwy 178.

Showers at Techopah? Can you negotiate us a group rate there? Maybe we can rent the pool for an hour?

Robg and I may have a solution for the no-fire areas as well. Will depend on space but we have a propane fire ring...

I also saw some cheaper motels (Econolodge, Vagabond, BudgetInn) for less than $50 with availablity on Friday night. I am pinching pennies right now. Blew all my cash on the winch!

Beaver, RobG and I will be rolling down late Friday night and hope to make it to Ridgecrest before midnight. It will depend on when I get off work, but we will be leaving no earlier than 3pm from Elk Grove. Looks like it is 6.5 hours to Ridgecrest (370miles), but if Beaver is leading we will get there in 5... Much shorter than our 850 mile/16 hour straight jaunt to Moab in October...

I just read an article about how high the price of gas is right now (which is strange for this time of year). They expect the price to continue going up until the end of April:(

Antonio - I think you should have no issue getting the trailer through various obstacles. I have contemplated bringing the Land Trailer along this year, but last year there were several spots that I had to back out of for a better line or because I followed some one down the wrong canyon... so I will be very interested to see how yours does this year...

I also have one of these, it hasn't been out of the box yet. Need to grab a new propane tank to go with it for this trip.

We are down for the Hotel as well. Kevin -- should we just pick one and start making reservations? Do you think the Springhill Suites one has more room for large families?

I, too, am down with the hotel. I was hoping to follow somebody(ies) from my area, Sacramento or Stockton. I prefer the 99 than the 5. I get this fabulous cheese from Bravo Farms whenever I am on that SR. I use the 12 to the 99. I like to convoy. Anyone down? Or is everyone from the bay area? :-(
