I received an email from AB about some LR3/LR4 items on sale and noticed what they call a new roof rack ladder. Looks like it has an additional step and a little part that sticks out on the side. Thought I'd toss it out here in case anyone is in the market.

Not sure how 'new' it is since I don't regularly look for LR4 parts.

I think I've seen a ladder like that before, but I'm going to take a pass and stick with my front runner ladder

The integrated steps are cool for protection, but man is that thing wide (and fugly)! I assume the little drop down is supposed to be a grab handle when the gate is up, but doesn't seem very functional since it's 3-4" higher than the gate when open.

I was guessing the little extra bit was the first (and lower) step for the less limber among us... If it's a pull handle, I agree -- it wouldn't be a very useful one.

I saw that laddder too and Derek over at Urban Offroad also makes one similar to it. It looks functional, but I hate it.

Oh, Urban Offroad has an even funkier option. I don't know if they actually ever sold one, but apparently he made at least on prototype

Yes! I saw that at Derek's workshop when he was in Oakhurst. It was thrown in the corner - he said he's never received an order for it. Ever. I can see why.

I just got a front runner ladder. I love it and it looks great. One issue, the struts aren't strong enough anymore. I'm wondering since they're original if I should just get new ones or if I need to get new stronger ones? Anyone know? Can you even get stronger struts?

The only movie lines I know are from over a decade ago...

Bear - struts are pretty generic. You should be able to pull one of yours off and take it down to the local Kragen/Autozone/Napa and pick one up in the same size in whatever pressure you want. Usually run about $20 I think.

Of course, I haven't actually tried to replace them on an LR3 - it could be something completely wacky and Land Rover specific, but I doubt it.

I don't see a pressure rating on the struts. Anyone know what I should get?
