I'm working with a friend today to swap the Tcase in the Classic. Our plan was to pull tcase while leaving transmission in place, which seems to be suggested by most online.

We freed the old BW TC in the Classic from all nuts, bolts, and everything else holding it on, but cannot get it off the transmission output shaft. We've lowered the transmission onto the cross member, and this actually seemed to make the problem worse. We just can't get the tcase far enough back to be free of the output shaft. I feel like there's something obvious that we're overlooking.

Does anyone have any tips? Thanks.

Chad, you need to drop the crossmember. Once you do that, lower the trans and bw and it'll clear that hump in the body. You will be rolling in no time if ya lose that crossmember

Did that, tranny came a good way further. Tcase is still good and stuck.

What's it hitting on? So you removed the y pipe and crossmember? Shouldn't be much else to hang up on.

Chad,

You did undo the shift linkage?

How about the breather line and the indicator wire?

How about the breather line and the indicator wire?

Jason,

Good point, although I think there should be enough slack in the breather, and the switch wire easily breaks off .....

That was a complete mess. I've done engine swaps that were much easier.

I hadn't dropped the Y pipe. Many things I read said not to bother with it. They were wrong. All linkages and pipes were disconnected, we just couldn't find the room to get it off the transmission output shaft. Everything else went about as we expected, but we literally spent hours on the output shaft. I'll update my build thread with more info tonight or tomorrow.

Sir Pedram, et al: the next chapter in the saga has been posted in my build thread. Grab a beer and enjoy.
