Good news! It turns out that my block actually has the flex plate/ flywheel on it, so that solves that issue. Here are some pictures for the curious.

Tyler,

Is it a Gems or a Thor?  Can't see from those shots.

Not sure. Dan said that it wasn't that hard to convert between them, so I didn't ask.

But I thought that diamonds were a girl's best friend ... so the Gems might be more valuable ....

Well, I finally got the engine from Q and E. It came out to be $3100 for a short block build, with the rotating assembly balanced. Unfortunately it got here too late last week for me to actually install the new engine, so that bit is going to have to wait until I get back in May...

5.7 LS swap.  GM 6-spd trans.  LT230 w/adapter plate.  Hotrod stand-alone wiring harness.  Convert everything else Rover specific to manual.

You have a NM address.  You could make it work, at least until you moved back to CA.

I just got a quote for an LS swap into a defender and $15k covers new engine/tranny and all electronics and 50 to 60 hrs of work at $90 an hr from Safari Heritage in Florida. I was inquiring about some work to a potential purchase.

Tyler, I am sure you are itching to get that truck running again. Where are you until May?

I'm stuck at school until May, so no engine swap for me until then.

Is that a smog legal swap? Coming from FL I'd question it.

Somewhere I have contact info for the guy in Socal doing Defender LS Swaps. He has gotten them past smog but it takes more than just the engine.
