I sort of hijacked the original thread and though I'd go ahead and start a new one just on this topic.

I'm putting together a group buy on 3/8" Dyneema bulk line.  I can get the line at $1.91 /ft.  I can also get HD S/S thimbles for the line at $6/ea.

I'll arrange delivery at any club events (I'm at most of them) or we can meet at some point.  I'm generally in the Sacramento area on weekends and Oakland/Sausalito during the week.  Brenton has volunteered to help us with the splicing and Chris has volunteered his home in the east bay for the splicing party, though we are not locked into a particular time or place.

I'm planning to place the order April 4th, so if you're interested let me know.

So far I have the following people interested.  I'll update this post with names/amounts as they come in.

(updated 4-3)

Don - 200', 4 thimbles

Chris - 100', 2 thimbles

Brenton - 30', 2 thimbles

Nick - 100', 4 thimbles

Tyler - 355', 6 thimbles

Rupert - 100', 1 thimble

Paul - 100', 1 thimble

David - 80', 1 thimble

Jake - 100'

Jason - 85', 1 thimble

Lutzi - 50', 2 thimbles

Total:  1300', 24 thimbles

Anybody else interested?

Still planning to leave this open through the weekend and make the order on 4/4, so time to get in if you want.

Can I join in?

I am in no hurry but I was going to replace mine, I would need 80' and a thimble, but I am in SoCal, we'll arrange something, I go to SF often enough...

Thanks

David.

Will talk to my finance officer tonight. I will likely take 85 and a thimble. That should leave us pretty close to 2 spools. Also my buddy is not interested.

New thread same answer ;-) No hurry, thinking about an extension so what length: 50'? 75'? 67' at end of spool? ;-). It's more of a want than a need so let me know what works...and oh 1 thimble. Thanks Don

Sorry for the late reply, I'd be in for 100'.

David - I'm in SoCal as well so if you are going to be in the bay area in the not too distant future I could have you grab mine while you are at it and make arrangements to pick it up from you down here. If not we could have Don ship it down and split the cost of shipping.

Got you down.  No problem on the timing - that's why I'm leaving this open all week.

If we need to ship it the stuff is very light so at least it won't cost much.

We have an office up there, so I go from time to time, although no immediate plans at this point...

Got it - and yes, that's 2 spools.

I haven't given any thought to when we'd get together.  Chris had offered his place in the east bay as a location, though we aren't locked into that.  Probably best to work it around Brenton's plans as he's our splicing guru.

My schedule is pretty open. Right now, I'm busy Saturday 4/16, but free most any other weekend.

The only bottleneck for splicing will be scissors. I have one good pair that comes with the Winchline repair kit. The ones in the homemade kits are ok, but take a bit of work to cut through the rope. Six (of 12) strands need to be cut to make the taper.

Each homemade kit has everything needed (fid, electrical tape, needle, Sharpie) except the whipping twine, which I have a pretty large roll of.

Since many the folks on this thread wheel together, it looks like there will be over 1,000' of "winch extension" for those of us who may not build one of our own... Seems pretty safe either way ;-)

Don can I add 2 thimbles please? Figure I'll put one at the end of my old rope and one on my new rope (although I may still go hook for the nostalgia)
