Don can I add 2 thimbles please? Figure I'll put one at the end of my old rope and one on my new rope (although I may still go hook for the nostalgia)

Put me down for 50ft plus 2 2 thimbles please.

Got it.

Something else you should consider getting is a rock guard for your line. It's an outer sleeve to prevent chafing if it needs to cross over anything (not just rocks). It also serves to add some protection over the last wrap on the drum when not in use.

Don, put me down for 2 thimbles. I'm going to wind up with 2 extensions and will use different splicing techniques between the open and gusseted thimbles.

Was thinking - what sort of thimble would you recommend for a hook?  Obviously you can't use a closed thimble since you can't get it through the eye.  My current line has an open thimble that must have been pried open to to get he hook on then closed back up, but I'm guessing it's pretty tough to pry them apart like that without weakening the thimble.

Don, another one of my friends would like 50ft and two thimbles, so if you could add that to the NM order that would be great.

I'll have get all this shipped, so could I PM you to work out the details for that?

Bend the thimble as if it were "walking". By that, I mean not spreading open the bend, but sheared (if that makes sense). It might be hard to do that without a vice, and pliers. You'll need to be very careful and not bite into the metal and leaves nicks. You'd still need a vice, but with a tube thimble, you can use a screw driver (in the tube) for better leverage. It should open pretty easily that way.

I sent a request to my disty last night and got an automated response saying he's out until Tuesday so I won't hear back until tomorrow.

Is there a preferred color?  I was just going with grey.    I can also get red, black, green, and blue.

Oddly, though my retail catalogs show the same price for all colors, the wholesale pricing is showing as slightly different with grey being the least expensive.  I didn't specify a color when contacting my disty but I'll double check if there is actually a difference in price for different colors.  (seems a bit odd)

It's possible I could also get the more interesting colors like yellow or orange, but I certainly wouldn't be able to get any sort of good pricing on them since they'd be a special order.

If there is a least expensive option that's the way I vote. If it's the same $ then I dot care. As long as it works.

I talked with my disty today and placed the order.  I ended up with grey....not very sexy but the price was best.  Got it down a little more.  Line dropped from $1.91 to $1.85/ft and the thimbles dropped from $6 to $5.  Hooray savings!

Payment...well, I suppose payment upon delivery is good.  Not a giant rush.  I hope to pick up the line later this week, so I'll be able to cut it to size over the weekend for each order.  I can possibly meet with those of you in the bay area to deliver, or bring it to the next DitD, or whatever works best.  The same for the Sac guys.  For those not local I can either hold onto yours until you're around throw it in a USPS flat-rate box.

I haven't given any thought to a spicing date or location yet.  It might be best to bring Brenton into the conversation here to suggest some dates since he's the splice-meister.

Doesn't look too bad but would be good to have someone around that has experience. Don't we have a sac get together coming up?
