While trying to diagnose a water leak today, I remove some interior body panels. What I found scares me a bit.

The safety belt upper anchor on the B-pillar has cracks all over it and appears to be separating.  Has anyone else seen this?  Is it a known issue?

Yikes! I've never seen that before. My first guess would be if it could have been in a wreck prior to you purchasing it. If you're the original owner and it's never been wrecked, I'd talk to your local LR dealer ASAP and have them take care of it.

Never heard of that before. Hard to understand how it could happen. Even in an accident you shouldn't see that.

Yeah.  I looked at these photos a couple of days ago and couldn't come to any rationalization on how that would happen without some severe load.

Is the piece solid metal or does it have a plastic over molding on it? I've seen the plastic covers on other models crack before while the metal underneath is fine.

Looks to be solid metal. Time for a trip to the dealer....

Please let us know the outcome of what they say.  I looked through all of the posted LR3 recalls online and couldn't find anything for that part of the truck.

So far:

One dealership said it's not covered under warranty.

I also called LR North America and they said there are no recalls or service bulletins and that any repairs would be at my expense.

I would be interested in hearing if others see the same damage. I'm going to check our 2nd LR3 as well.

Kevin,

That is not acceptable in my eyes.  Please file a safety report here:

Will do Graeme.

I just confirmed that the driver's side in the 05 has the same issue. Also, cracks are starting to appear in the same location on my 07.

Update: One complaint submitted per rig....

Wow - looks like all of us should inspect our rigs.  I'll try to do that when I get back home.  Might be worth posting this on other forums as well if we start seeing a pattern.

I just heard back from a dealer that it is just a plastic cover over a metal anchor. So we are safe! Yay.

Plastic is cracked due to age.

Special thanks to Land Rover Rocklin for giving me peace of mind.

I wondered about that but from your pics it looked like cracks in the metal.  Good to know - that would have been a major issue.
